It is here thet the Sella & Mosca estate extends over 650 hectares, 500 undervine, making it one of Europe’s largest full-cycle producers of premium wines, obtained from grapes grown and harvested on estate-owned vineyeards. Add to these the estate properties at Giba in Sulcis, on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, between Capo Teulada and the Iglesiente mountain chain, and you have a symbolic bridge joining the north and south of the island. A unique terroir the soil is rich minerals, with little water, the sky  is cloudless, the climate warm and well-ventilated. La città dell'olio.

“Travelling around the - Cities of Oil - means looking for a thousand-year old culture that strongly carachterized life of those people who have always lived in the shadow of clamours and organized tourism flows. The realization of a touristic guide towards these towns has the purpose to incite the discovery of a new kind of tourism." With these words Enrico Lupi - President of Cities of Oil Association - introduces the beautiful guide book that Italian Touring Club dedicates to places in Italy carachterized by olive-tree cultivation. This kind of cultivation interests almost all of Italian regions, except for Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta. Olive tree is the symbol of Mediterranean coasts and Italy (with Spain and Tunisia) represents the third olive oil-producing country in the Mediterranen Basin.

Santa Maria La Palma.

The Santa Maria Palma Wine Growers’ Association has its origins in the period immediately after WWII when, as a result of  national legislation, a vast area of sheep farming land was granted to farm workers. In the beginning of the 1950s, vast areas of land began to be reclaimed and at the same time an appropriate and rational experimentation was carried out  aimed at individualizing the cultivation that was most adapted to the pedoclimatic characteristics of the area. The results of these experiments  immediately highlighted  the strong predisposition of the land for high quality wine growing, with particular reference to varieties such as Cannonau and Vermentino. This event determined the creation of a ‘pilot’ surface area of over 300 hectares, divided into 65 small businesses located in the area of Maristella, in the impressive and splendid setting which is  in  the area between  the Gulf of Alghero and the Bay of Porto Conte  (the ancient Bay of Ninpharium).
